the human mind is truly the scariest thing of all: A Poem

The human mind is truly the scariest thing of all.
It can paint pictures of colour at whispers of sound;
It can create taste with a mere thought;
It is capable of imagining things it has never seen.
And yet we call those things a disease?
It can conjure words that spear as sharp as thorns;
It can hurt and maim for far longer than blades;
It can create scars that never heal.
And yet we call those things normal?
It can heal wounds that have been for years;
Or it can open new ones from the scars of old;
It can save a person from the edge;
Or it can cause a person to make the jump;
And yet we do not realise our butterfly could cause a hurricane?
We wish upon stars and saints;
Pray along lines blurred through the years;
And will our thoughts into being;
Yet only some are accepted while others are silenced?
The human mind is truly the scariest thing of all.
